I think it’s a good thing that all of the world’s interaction design & UI engineering talent gets diverted from building CRUD, e-commerce, or finance apps that are better handled by natural language commands. And more towards “direct manipulation” creative apps.

Nothing beats the classic GTA radio stations from the 3D era. Haven’t seen a better soundtrack in a game, film, or TV series since then Especially Vice City, San Andreas, and Vice City Stories.

And going back a decade or more you can see the concept in science fiction books. In Asimov’s Naked Sun, it was futuristic for people to “view” each other as some kind of 3D holographic projection instead of “seeing” each other. It’s still futuristic today! We’re only at goggles VR, no 3D holographs yet
