Measles cases in the U.S. just hit a 30-year high. According to the CDC, more than 2,000 measles cases have been recorded in 2025 a dramatic jump from just 285 in 2024. This surge could even cause the U.S. to lose its measles “elimination status” by early 2026. The outbrek began in Texas and has spread widely, with most infections occurring in people who were not vaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown. Measles is one of the most contagious viruses known, and experts say the best protection remains vaccination with the MMR shot, which offers strong immunity when people get both recommendd doses. This spike shows what can happen when vaccination rates drop and infectious diseases are allowed to resurge a serious public-health warning as we head into 2026. Source: Axios / CDC reporting.
