I've done some research. Mosquitoes find their prey in two ways: by sensing heat and CO2 we breathe out. When you're under a blanket, the mosquito can't see you in infrared light, but CO2 still comes out. That's why they hover around you. Hold your breath for 15-20 minutes and they'll lose interest.
