Random fun fact I found out today: during the Edo era, printing companies made collectible prints of the famous kabuki actors and other entertainers Over the years, the images went from depicting the characters to focusing on the actors’ likenesses. So basically the Japanese invented the first baseball cards? (No wonder they love baseball) During a major economic crisis in mid-19th century, the shogunate banned prints with the actors on them to discourage the population from spending their funds on entertainment

Honestly I don’t share even half of the things I discover/learn/see anymore out of fear of passing for the infamous Japan guy(or just a know-it-all 外人) But I went to a woodblock printing exhibit today, and this art style is absolutely exquisite - definitely recommend looking into it if you love pre-modern/traditional imagery
