Top graph is known to be bad info viz. The area of the thing is dependent on (arbitrary) ordering of the categories.
You can easily lie with that sort of visualization.
Category: A B C D E F G H
Thing 1: 10 9 8 7 4 3 2 1
Thing 2: 4 10 3 9 2 8 1 7
Thing 1 and 2 are "equally good" but Thing 1 *looks* way better.
