By now, you might've already guessed the place
& if not, this is Zainakadal. One of those corners
of Downtown that still carries the old scent.
These lanes once lived with the sound of
handlooms. It was here that Shah e Hamdan
brought the art & spirit that shaped Kashmiri carpet design crafts,
later Budshah, kept that spirit alive. Under his
watch, every home in the old city became a
small karkhana of making shawls & carpet with designs. Today, that heartbeat has
slowed. Many karkhanas have fallen silent
because of many reason but somehow it still
lives on. This piece on Zainakadal is just my way
