The spiritual birthplace of the Yoruba people and one of the oldest cities in West Africa. According to Yoruba cosmology, Ile-Ife is where the gods descended to create the earth. Its ancient bronze and terracotta sculptures, dating to the 12th–14th centuries, are among the finest art ever produced on the continent.
