Warsaw, Poland — Perhaps the most resilient city in Europe. In World War II, the Nazis systematically razed Warsaw to the ground — 85% of the city was destroyed. What you see today is one of history's greatest acts of collective rebuilding: the Polish people meticulously reconstructed the entire Old Town brick by brick from old paintings and photographs. The rebuilt Old Town is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a monument to human determination.
