Stablecoins are digital assets designed to minimize volatility by pegging their value to a stable asset or a basket of assets. There are three main types:
1. Fiat-Collateralized: These stablecoins are backed by fiat currencies like the US dollar. For each stablecoin issued, there is a corresponding amount of fiat currency held in reserve. Examples include USDT and USDC.
2. Crypto-Collateralized: Unlike fiat-backed stablecoins, these are collateralized by cryptocurrencies. They use over-collateralization to mitigate the risk of market fluctuations. DAI is a well-known example in this category.
3. Algorithmic: These stablecoins use algorithms to control supply and demand, aiming to maintain a stable value without collateral. Unlike the first two, they don't have an underlying asset backing them directly. AMO is an example of an algorithmic stablecoin.
