"American AI models went from 70% of usage to 30% in 12 months. On OpenRouter, the marketplace where developers route real production traffic across hundreds of models, Chinese models climbed from about 1% of usage in 2024 to more than 60% by May. By June, weekly data showed Chinese systems handling around 18 trillion tokens against about 5.5 trillion for American ones. A complete reversal from the start of the year."
