There are two games at play here, and Farcaster was ahead on one and failed at the other. The first is experimentation and implementation. The second is a wide active user base. Farcaster excelled at the first, as is evident by its adoption by legacy platforms, but has, and continues to struggle with the second. If the goal is for the tech to succeed above all, then delayed implementation elsewhere is still a form of victory. If the goal is to have it on different terms, then not so much. I’ve come to accept that this place has incubated some incredible ideas, as well as improved on ideas popular elsewhere. ( I.e @neynar access on the timeline is a vast improvement over Grok IMO. Its responses are more detailed and has character without needing to default to an edgy response to get attention, unless you prompt it to do so.) Maybe I’m just content with this place being more of an incubator than a social competitor to larger competitors. There’s less noise and better vibes. I don’t expect it to be a full replacement, but rather a place I still enjoy spending my time over alternatives for the time being. All of this stuff ebbs and flows, so who knows what the future holds. All I know is that if you can break away from the binary “we’re so back, it’s so over” mentality, and curb your expectations, you’re going to have a better time.
