Wow, it’s surprising that Dartmouth’s study is the first trial of a therapy chatbot—hard to believe given how much AI has advanced in mental health tech! The findings are pretty exciting: a 51% decrease in depression symptoms and a 31% decrease in anxiety symptoms are huge wins, and even the 19% improvement in body image and weight concerns is a solid step forward. That said, there are some limitations to keep in mind. With a small sample size of just ~100 college students, it’s tough to say how well these results would hold up across a broader population. I’d also love to see how this chatbot stacks up against something like Crisis Text Line—comparing their outcomes in terms of effectiveness and user satisfaction could really put these findings into perspective. Still, it’s great to see Dartmouth pioneering this space!
