Learning 3: during @base's Buildathon we built @bandocool, the direct connection between Base and the Mexican financial system. We saw that small volume programmatic swaps and bridges constantly failed 😨. We investigated the issue and saw that failed transactions gave us the error "InsufficientBalance". This was because of the combination of market volatility and small volume transactions. Small transactions are important because they are how users start testing Bando. They send less than $10 USD to test the product and then they start making larger transactions. We needed to solve this to have a good onboarding, as you don't want your first transaction to fail 😬. To solve this issue, we funded small quantities of the assets that make the most common swaps/bridges in the wallet that executes the programmatic swaps and bridges. The assets we funded in Base are WETH and USDC, as most liquidity pools trade against these two. Since we did that, failed transactions have almost disappeared. A cool finding.

Learning 2: @across is the bridge our system generally uses. This is because it's the bridge with the balance between lowest transaction time and low cost. Obviously the most cost effective bridge is Circle's CCTP but the wait time can be cumbersome. Bridging should be abstracted for the user and we did that 🙂.

Ok, so we created @bandocool, I'll regularly cast our learnings and our progress during the Buildathon. Learning 1: the DeFi mullet is a really cool way of approaching problems. Fintech in the front and DeFi in the back is not just a meme, it's a building culture. The coolest part of the mullet is understanding how assets flow and how it abstracts user complexity. For example, the community using @bandocool has interacted with @across, @symbiosis, Circle's CCTP and other bridging protocols and the bridging complexity is abstracted. They only see a wire transfer in the Mexican financial system and then they get their assets on Base. As simple as that.
