2. The Taproot Upgrade
In 2021, Bitcoin activated Taproot (BIP 341/342), and this unlocked three critical upgrades:
- Schnorr Signatures: Delivers efficient and private multi-signature transactions.
- MAST(Merklized Alternative Script Trees) : Stores multiple spending rules and reveals only the one used. This upgrade cut fees by 20–30% and boosted privacy.
- Tapscript: A flexible scripting for advanced on-chain logics.
For the first time, Bitcoin could enforce vaults, liquidations, and governance natively and this is the foundation Ducat used in building $UNIT.
