For beauty, one can find no origin other than a wound; a unique and singular wound, different for every human being, hidden or visible, which each person carries within themselves and turns to whenever they wish to leave the world for a momentary yet profound solitude. Thus, there is a great distance between this art and what is called helplessness. It seems that the purpose of Giacometti’s art is to discover the hidden wound of every being indeed, of every object a wound that becomes the source of its illumination.
