When Humanity Tried to Ride Zebras: A Forgotten 1890–1940 Experiment That Failed Spectacularly
Coz they're beautiful
SOLEIL LEVANT Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant) by the French artist Claude Monet. It was first shown in Paris in April 1874 at an exhibition that would become known as the "Exhibition of the Impressionists". The painting is widely credited with inspiring the name of the Impressionist art movement. Monet painted the work in 1872, depicting the port of Le Havre, France, using loose brushwork to capture the fleeting moment and the effect of light and color on the water. The style, which emphasized capturing a "sensation" or "impression" rather than realistic detail, was initially criticized as being "sloppy" by some critics.
