Is there anyone here who’s willing to vouch for Infinite Jest? I’m not far into yet but it’s feeling like the Jeff Koons balloon dog of novels I’m on the fence about abandoning it and a credible endorsement or two would tip the scales @keccers.eth @tldr @links @phil

if you're not vibing you're not vibing "The important thing is to be ruthless with the books that are not good. Just stop reading, put them down, usually throw them away, don’t give them away. If you give them away you could be doing harm to people"

I read enough to know I wasn’t interested to read it all He’s a very talented writer and thinker, I just felt like I was watching his private Magic performance instead of experiencing a story

If you have an unlimited amount of time, read it. If not, move on.

It's been on my shelf and I've cracked it open several times over the years but could never get into it. Which means... I prob wasn't ready for it. I'd say, don't force it. There isn't enough time to read stuff that you're not vibing with and you can always come back to it.

haven't read infinite jest, but have read others of his stories. Big Red Son is one of the best things i've ever read. period. from the build to the prose to the subject, it's just amazing. so, maybe doesn't matter for IJ, but DFW had amazing talent.
