One of my more contentious takes is that we assume a utopian world is one wallet that connects every app.

I actually believe that we will have may different wallets for many different apps.

What's unique about crypto is the ability to tie all those wallets (and their onchain history) together under one profile.

I assume you are using the term "wallet" to refer to the software that is used to interact with x chain. 

If so, why different wallets for different dapps when we already have wallets that actually can interact with all popular chains, let alone per dapp?
