But rarely do both characters make it all the way through. Some couples stay long enough to hold qíng, but negligent enough to let ài be lost. Others burn bright in ài, but don’t persevere long enough in the relationship to experience qíng. It’s not a tragedy. It’s just a pattern we don’t always get to finish tracing.
