The Turnspit dog is a short-legged, long-bodied dog breed bred to run a mill, called a turnspit or mill dog, to turn meat. This type of dog is now extinct. The Turnspit dog is mentioned in Of English Dogs in 1576 under the name "Turnespete".*[1] William Bingley's Memoir of the Quadrupeds of England (1809) also speaks of a working dog to help the head kitchen and kitchen assistants. It is also known as the Kitchen Dog, Cooking Dog, the Underdog and Vernepator. In Linnaeus's 18th-century dog classification, it was listed as Canis vertigus. The breed disappeared because it was considered an insignificant and popular breed with no original records of the breed being preserved. Tiker : $TS #Clanker
